YOSHIKO YOSHINO

Date of Birth: July 13. 1915
The 5th daughter between Naoyoshi Ogawa,father (linguist,friend of Masaoka Shiki's and winner of an award from the Japan Academy) and Kiku Ogawa,mother.
Entered Elementary School of Ehime Prefectural Normal School.Graduated from Ehime Prefectural Girls' School of Higher Education and entered the department of English literature of Doshisha Women's College.Quit college for marriage.
Enter the monthly Haiku magazine“HAMA" (the Beach),1948.
Became am ember of the Coterie HAMA,Haiku magazine,1954.
Published the monthly Haiku magazine “HOSHI" (the Stars) in January,1979, which has continued to this day.
Published yet another monthly Haiku magazine “GINGA”(the Milky Way),a nationwide extramural correspondence course for the rising generation.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES

1987: Visited the USA to attend the Japan-America Haiku Contest as judge. Gave a lecture on “Cosmic Universality of Basho's Haiku”.
1988: Invited to the World Poets' Conference in Bangkok, Thailand and made an English speech on “Universality of Haiku.”
1988: Attended the “Children's Haiku Contest” in Brisbane, Australia
1989: Attended the symposia on the Ja pan-China Fixed-form Verses in Beijin and Shanghai, China.
1989: Attended the Haiku Society “HAKOBUNE”(the Ark) as adviser in New York. 1990: Reinvited to New York.

AWARDS

1972: “HAMA”Award.
1987: Honored by the Governor of Ehime (for promotion of local culture).
1990: Honored by the International Soroptimists' Association (for contribution to international education).
1991: Honored by the Education Minister of Japan (for promotion of local culture.) 1992: Awarded a prize for the promotion of education and culture of Ehime.

未訳の賞

松山市文化表彰(平成6年)、愛媛放送賞(平成8年)、ソロプチミスト日本財団千嘉代子賞(平成8年)、「俳句四季」大賞(平成13年)、「俳人協会四周年功労」賞(平成13年)、「鶴」翻訳最優秀賞(アメリカ)(平成15年・西暦2002年)、愛媛県文化協会創立10周年記念文化功労賞(平成15年)



吉野義子の父、小川尚義が愛媛人物博物館(愛媛県生涯学習センター内)の収蔵品展「偉人たちの宝」―秋山兄弟、夏目漱石ら25人の名品―で紹介されました。

Naoyoshi Ogawa(1869〜1947)

Naoyoshi Ogawa was educator, linguist of Taiwanese. 松山城下の一番町(現松山市)出身。帝国大学文科大学博言科(現東京大学)卒業。昭和5年、台北帝国大学文理学部教授となり台湾語の研究に精進した。台湾語を専門とし、『日台大辞典』、『台日大辞典j] 2巻を著した。また、『原語による台湾高砂族伝説集』を共著で著し、学士院恩賜賞を受賞した。一方、趣味で能楽を楽しみ、同郷の宝生弥一、川崎九淵らと交流があった。
